Nolan sisters backing Sunderland for World Cup 2018

The Nolans, backing Sunderland's bid to host the 2018 World Cup

THEY may be in the mood for dancing, but now the Nolan sisters have revealed a passion for a different kind of footwork.

The legendary girl group were in the North East at the weekend as part of a reunion tour. And while here, they took time out to back moves to bring World Cup football to the region.

The sister act say they are huge soccer fans and threw their weight behind Sunderland’s bid to be a host city for the 2018 or 2022 tournaments.

The city wants to be part of England’s application to stage the festival of football, with a decision due later this year.

And the Nolans – Coleen, Linda, Bernie and Maureen – became the latest celebrities to give their backing, holding aloft scarves and flags ahead of their gig.

Coleen, who has also starred in Dancing On Ice and a regular on ITV’s Loose Women said: “We always look forward to coming to the North East. These crowds know how to create a welcoming atmosphere. The people up here are simply fantastic.”

The Nolans shot to fame in the 1970s and their most well-known hit was In The Mood for Dancing.
