Thousands flock to Katie Price book signing

Chaos at WH Smith's Metrocentre store as hundreds attend the signing of Katie Price's book

FANS climbed book shelves to get a better view of their idol Katie Price when the model came to the North East for a book signing.

Organisers were astounded by the turnout when the woman also known as Jordan appeared first in Newcastle city centre and then the MetroCentre in Gateshead.

Her appearance in two stores sparked a frenzy, with everyone hoping to get her to sign a copy of her new book Standing Out: My Look, My Style, My Life.

Copies of the book were flying off the shelf as younger fans clambered over bookcases to get a higher vantage point and a better glimpse of the action. With a team of 25 security guards as well as several police officers, she was taking no chances.

The 31-year-old beefed up security ahead of her journey to the region after her pubic profile suffered a battering following her divorce from Peter Andre. She was worried a fan would try to lash out and assault her in a repeat of the attack on reality TV singing sensation Leona Lewis, but there was no need for her to worry as she got a warm Geordie welcome.
