Clarke and Cable back our Go Global campaign

Conservative MP Ken Clarke

WHITEHALL heavyweights Ken Clarke and Vince Cable put political rivalries aside to back The Journal’s Go Global campaign.

Shadow Business Secretary Mr Clarke also praised the region for producing products of the “highest quality” while Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Mr Cable said exports were central to economic growth.

The developments come after The Journal joined forces with the North East Chamber of Commerce to launch the campaign, which is aiming to encourage more firms to export more goods and services.

Business chiefs said boosting exports is central to future economic growth.

And while the region’s positive trade balance has been maintained during the slump, the number of exporting companies remains relatively low.

Go Global is designed to end any fears of expanding abroad and show the support available to companies in the North East to export.

Mr Clarke said: “I am delighted to support The Journal's Go Global campaign. After 12 years of Labour, Britain does not export as much as it should – in fact we have the largest trade deficit in Europe.
