Mountain bike trials area unveiled at Kielder

DAREDEVIL mountain bikers will take a leap of faith when a new tourist attraction is unveiled.

A special trials area at Kielder Water and Forest Park will give thrill seekers the chance to perform heart-stopping leaps and turns.

It will feature a rock garden, big jumps and a two-metre high elevated timber trail.

Bikers using the new trials park will need body armour, specialist bikes and nerves of steel.

It comes as part of a £900,000 investment in off-road facilities at the park.

Alex MacLennan, recreation and tourism manager with the Forestry Commission, said: “This kind of riding has a strong following in the region, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.

“Our ambition is to create one of Britain’s best off-road bike centres, offering something for all ability levels, including those with a taste for the more extreme end of the sport.”

The new bike trail is located at Kielder Castle Visitor Centre, and officially opens on Sunday.
