NEWCASTLE United star Danny Guthrie will start the new football season with a driving ban after he was caught breaking the speed limit.
The midfielder landed in trouble with the law when he was clocked doing 101mph in his Audi Q7 along a 70mph stretch of road.
He was caught out by PC Mark Reid as he hurtled along the A696 Woolsington bypass on February 25 at around 3.30pm. When he was pulled over and told his speed, he acknowledged he was over the limit.
Guthrie failed to attend the first hearing on July 24 at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court but the case was proved in his absence.
Due to the speed being so excessive, magistrates originally adjourned the matter to yesterday as they were looking to issue a ban and Guthrie needed to be present.
But the case was brought forward earlier in the week and the court landed Guthrie with a £1,000 fine and three-week ban after it was deemed his speed was so excessive it warranted more than just six points on his license.
Speaking at the time of the first hearing, prosecuting solicitor Debbie Breen said: “PC Mark Reid was on duty at around 3.33pm on February 25.
