Teenager Mark Kane forced cat to inhale cannabis

Mark Kane leaves South Tyneside Magistrates' Court after admitting two animal cruelty offences.

A TEENAGER stole a cat and was filmed on a mobile phone putting it in a bag, forcing it to inhale cannabis and swinging it round his head like a lasso, a court heard.

Jobless Mark Kane, 19, had been smoking cannabis prior to carrying out the sick attack on the defenceless young tabby cat.

On the short video clip a voice could be heard – in between laughter – shouting “This cat is getting stoned off its head”.

Kane and a friend, who has never been identified, carried out the attack on January 3 this year at a house in South Shields, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard.

Prosecutor Clive McKeag told the court that Kane was inhaling cannabis from a water pipe – known as a bong.

“They were totally gratuitous, they were intentional, they were sadistic, and the prosecution say, they were wicked,” he said.

The defendant can be seen on the video taking a cat, putting it in a bag, then inhaling some cannabis and blowing that cannabis into a bag, sealing the bag and then swinging the bag round his head like a lasso.”

Mr McKeag said Kane had stolen the cat a couple of weeks earlier from a friend of his girlfriend.
