LOCAL historian Ged Lynn is embarking on a 300-mile walk to gather support for what would be the North East’s third world heritage site.
On August 9 Ged, 37, of St John’s Terrace, Jarrow, will set off from St Peter’s Church, Monkwearmouth, on the 25-day journey which will take him to Guildford in Surrey.
Keen walker Ged will be visiting a number of historical locations along the route while promoting the Wearmouth-Jarrow monastic site world heritage bid.
His route will take him via Darlington, Harrogate, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton and London.
The twin Anglo-Saxon monastery of St Peter’s in Wearmouth, Sunderland and St Paul’s in Jarrow is being nominated for world heritage status in 2010.
“I decided to complete the walk as a way of gathering support for the bid from people across the UK and to emphasise the history of Bede and his influence on the identify of England,” said Ged.
