Crowds follow the Arrows at Sunderland Air Show

ALL eyes were on the sky as a dazzling selection of aircraft had enthusiasts flocking to the North East coast.

One of the last remaining Vulcan bombers in the world stunned crowds on Wearside on Saturday as it made a majestic entrance at the Sunderland Air Show. The opening day of the two-day event – celebrating its 21st birthday this year – saw more than 300,000 people line the seafront at Seaburn and Roker to watch a dizzying display of aerial acrobatics.

And the Vulcan Bomber, which ruled the sky during the Cold War and also served during the Falklands campaign, was the highlight of the weekend for many.

Crowd favourites the Red Arrows opened the programme of events, which also included the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft, the Typhoon, or as it’s also known, the Eurofighter.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight made its traditional fly-past, with a Spitfire, Hurricane, and Dakota.
