Soccer tribute to tragedy pals

A FOOTBALL competition has been organised in memory of two soccer-mad friends who died within weeks of each other.
Lifelong pals Paul Mavin, 18, and Liam Shanks, 19, both of Hadston, Northumberland, died suddenly at the end of March and May respectively.
The tournament has been organised by Liam’s uncle, Keith Morley, who managed both players played in defence for North End Trap in the Morpeth Sunday League.
Taking part will be North End Trap and seven other teams, including East Chevington who both Liam and Paul – nicknamed Shanksa and Hacka – signed for last season.
Keith, who has paid for a trophy for the event, said: “It is a little competition to give the local community a lift.”
