Newton Aycliffe worker crushed in machine

A spokeswoman for the company said: “It is with extreme sadness that we must confirm that on Wednesday afternoon, in the press shop, one of our employees was fatally injured whilst at work.
“His immediate family have been advised and the press shop was closed for the afternoon and night shifts. A full investigation is being undertaken by the police and the Health and Safety Executive and no further details will be available until that investigation is complete.”
“Our sincere thoughts are with the family at this time of their loss and our thanks go out to those people who tried hard to assist in this tragic situation,” the spokeswoman added. “The company have arranged to set up support for any employee who feels personally affected by this event.”
A joint investigation has been launched by Durham Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
A spokeswoman for the HSE said: “HSE inspectors have visited the site and they are investigating the incident.”
