THE last throw of the dice could be just that if student Kieran Jorgensen’s idea catches on.
Kieran, a pupil at the Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick, was a winner yesterday in a competition aimed at encouraging design and technology.
The Discovery Museum in Newcastle hosted the Northumberland Young Designer and Technologist of the Year competition which was sponsored by the Schools of Design, Information Computing and Engineering Sciences and the Built Environment at Northumbria University.
The competition for Northumberland schools is organised by the Rotary Club of Hexham and recognises the best in invention and innovation.
Kieran won the pre-16 technology award for his design of an electronic dice whose circuit produces random sequences of number dots in dice format.
“It could be used by children if parents are worried about then swallowing conventional small dice, people with disabilities who cannot throw dice or people who just like gadgets,” said Kieran.
Amy Wood, from Stannington, who attends King Edward VI School in Morpeth, won the post-16 design award with her “East meets West” fashion creations.
