A BABY and the deputy headteacher of a Gateshead school are the latest confirmed cases of swine flu in the region.

Eight-month-old Millie Rose McDermont was last night in isolation, quarantined at her home in Sunderland, after contracting the illness.

She is said to be getting better after treatment with antiviral drugs but will remain in isolation for five days.

Millie’s family said they had no idea how the youngster caught swine flu.

Single mum Lynsey, 25, said: “She was screaming in pain and I didn’t know what on earth was wrong.

“But I didn’t think for one second it would be swine flu. She was crying and then she vomited.”

The other children in the family Demi, seven, and Kaillum, three, have gone to stay at their grandparents’.

The deputy headteacher who has been confirmed with swine flu works at Sacred Heart RC Primary at Byermoor, Gateshead. Headteacher at the school Paul Naughton was also diagnosed with the condition on Friday. The teacher has been off school and is said to be recovering at home.

There are no reports of any children developing symptoms and the school will remain open.
