A light goes on for hundreds of you

HUNDREDS of readers signed up to help the environment through a Journal offer.

We gave householders the chance to get a free water-saving ShowerSmart and two energy-saving light bulbs, in association with green support services firm eaga.

A total of 1,915 customers applied for the offer, saving about 1,915 tonnes of harmful CO2, which causes climate change.

The eaga ShowerSmart can be fitted to a wide range of showers and mixer taps to act as a flow restrictor. Tests show it can limit the flow rate to 7.7 litres per minute, saving more than 21,000 litres of water per year for a family of four.

This leads to less energy being used to heat water, cutting gas and metered water bills by around £60 per year, as well as helping the environment. And as the ShowerSmart aerates the water supply you will hardly notice there is less water.

Low-energy light bulbs have a life span 10 times longer than standard ones and use up to 80% less energy. Each one fitted can also save a typical household £6 a year.

Martin France, managing director of eaga water services, said: “The only way to deliver truly sustainable household energy efficiency solutions is through a genuine joined-up approach, including controlling the amount of energy and water we use.”
