Alnwick boy, 17, killed in Northumberland car crash

The popular former Duchess’s High School student and golf prodigy had only passed his driving test six days earlier.

Sam, from Highfield Park, Alnwick, was in his Vauxhall Corsa with three friends, who all escaped serious injury. The road on which both accidents happened was closed last night for an investigation into the most recent crash.

Meanwhile, a two-vehicle smash caused commuter chaos and blocked both lanes of the A1 in Northumberland yesterday. Police were called at around 3.15pm to the crash involving a BMW and a lorry on the northbound carriageway of A1.

The driver of the BMW suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Wansbeck Hospital to receive treatment. His condition was last night described as critical. Officers spent three hours at the scene of the accident just north of Alnwick near the Seahouses turnoff before the road was reopened.

Diversions were put in place as the road was blocked in both directions.

Firefighters cut a 42-year-old woman and her passenger from their Citroen C2 following a three-vehicle crash in Newcastle yesterday.

Police were called to Walker Road, Walker, following the accident at around 3.50pm.

The women were treated by paramedics on the roadside before being taken to Newcastle General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Two people in a Fiat Punto and the driver of an LDV van escaped from their vehicles uninjured before the arrival of firefighters.
