A TEENAGER was killed and two other people seriously injured last night when a car collided with a tree.
The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa, understood to be a 17-year old boy from Alnwick, Northumberland, died in the smash near his home town.
He is the second 17-year-old from the area to be killed in an accident on the road in less than a month.
Two passengers in the car involved in last night’s crash, who were both male, were seriously injured. One of them, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle, was flung from the car in the impact.
The accident happened at around 5.20pm on the B6341 between the A697 and Alnwick. It is not yet known why the car left the road.
A police spokeswoman said: “A red Vauxhall Corsa, for reasons yet to be established, lost control and collided with a tree.
“The male driver of the vehicle is deceased. The male front seat passenger sustained serious injuries.
“The male rear seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle and also sustained serious injuries.
“The ages and identities of the victims can not be confirmed at this time as relatives are still being informed.”
The accident is the second fatal collision in three weeks on the road.
Just three weeks ago, 17-year-old Sam Gattens was killed when the car he was driving overturned and hit a tree on the B6341 near Lion Bridge, just outside Alnwick.
