Newcastle Falcons stars and models in fashion fundraiser

THEY all dressed to impress. Newcastle Falcons rugby players and Geordie beauty Sophie Gradon, the current Miss Great Britain, took to the catwalks to raise the cash for breast cancer care.

The lunchtime show, held at Louis’ restaurant, part of the New Northumbria Hotel on Osborne Road, Jesmond, Newcastle, was a sell-out, raising £1,300 for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Guests to the exclusive event, costing £25 a ticket, were treated to a reception of Pimms and canapes as they mingled with the famous faces.

They then enjoyed a three-course meal before collections by Kate Lauren and Eden Park were shown off on the runway.

The event was inspired by Malcolm and Cher Ridley, who dedicated themselves to raising cash for cancer victims after their best friend and next-door neighbour Valerie Clark was diagnosed with the disease in November 2006.

Fortunately, Valerie, 56, is now all clear – but the money is still rolling in to help others.

Malcolm, the 34-year-old manager of Scalinis in Gosforth, part of the New Northumbria Hotel group, has set his even set his sights on reaching the summit of mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in September.

The Walker couple’s fundraising target was £4000, but the star-studded fashion show helped smash through that barrier.

“It was just fantastic,” an elated Cher said. “There were so many people there, we had to turn them away.
