Bingo play to be performed at social club

Varied career

BINGO! is the latest venture in the varied career of the play’s director Anne Orwin.

Anne, who lives in Whitley Bay, appeared in 17 series of TV’s Byker Grove, in which she played foster mum Lu Gallagher.

"Byker Grove was a great breeding ground for young talent and it was like a family by the end," said Anne.

She has featured in Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The League of Gentlemen, Holby City, and 55 Degrees North.

"Appearing in the League of Gentlemen was absolutely hilarious," she said.

Anne was also one of the founder members of Newcastle’s Live Theatre.

Anne has also been singing since the age of 14 and currently fronts the Annie Orwin Band.

"We do funky rock and we are recording our first album called New Suede Shoes," she said.

"Directing Bingo! was quite a challenge, but working with this group has been absolutely amazing. The energy they have is just phenomenal.

"The play is art reflecting life and people can join in the line dancing sequence at the end."
