Sunderland artist wins Underoath music video competition

“I think my video was the only one which was animated and that meant it stood out from the crowd.

“There were a lot of entries and I know people entered from the US, Australia and Sweden as well as quite a few from the UK. I was totally surprised when I found out I had won. I got a call from a representative of the band and they congratulated me.

“The prize is a chance to meet the band next time they come to England.

“They are pretty big on the rock scene in the States and they’ve played lots of festivals. I have seen them a couple of times when they have played over here and was a big fan. It will be great to get to met them.”

Davey is currently working for Northern Rock in their Gosforth head office to pay the bills, as he seeks to find a job doing what he loves.

“I graduated with a degree in animation earlier this year but I have found it really hard to get a job in the art world. I think the credit crunch has meant people are not hiring as they did in the past.

“My dream is to get a job doing some kind of art, hopefully animation, I just love it. And winning this competition could be a real boost to my career, it will look great on my CV.”
