Duke of Northumberland scraps building plans

“We put it in on at the former Alnwick District Council’s request and they have now disappeared.”
Coun Sandford last night said: “That is very good news. It really would have affected people’s lives around there. I am overjoyed and I hope it stays that way.
“I would like to think that Northumberland Estates changed their minds because they thought that people’s objections were valid.
“One can not rule it out but somehow I do not think so.”
Objector Heather Murray, of Addycombe Close, last night welcomed the Duke’s decision.
She said: “I do not see the need for any more houses in this area.”
In April, the estates described the site as a small piece of available land between existing housing areas.
It said it hoped to make the properties available to young families as affordable starter homes.
