THE original calendar girls of the Rylstone and District Women’s Institute put the "fun" back into fundraising and have inspired many to strip off for nude calendars.

Ten years after the first nude Women’s Institute calendar, the ladies of Rylstone in Yorkshire have launched a 2010 calendar in the hope to raise £2m for Leukeamia Research.

Many more fundraisers have followed in their naked footsteps to produce their own pin-up calendars as seen in the 2003 film, Calendar Girls, starring Helen Mirren, and the new play featuring Gateshead’s Jill Halfpenny.

Early this year, gym staff from Concordia Leisure Centre in Cramlington posed nude to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice.

In 2007, Northumbrian Water staff from Durham, Newcastle, Gateshead and Northumberland bared all for Comic Relief.
