Taking steps to stay healthy

THOUSANDS of children turned out for an event to celebrate health and fitness.
The youngsters did a fun run around Consett’s Belle Vue Leisure Centre as part of the Try Five project organised in the County Durham town.
More than 2,500 children were at the starting tape for the event, despite falling unlucky with the weather.
Previous days of sun and blue skies were replaced by a chilly breeze and persistent rain.
The event was a celebration of health and fitness in Derwentside, encouraging youngsters to get involved in sport and take part in healthy activities.
But organisers were also hoping the children would take home the physical fitness message to their parents.
The event was organised by the Derwentside School Sports Partnership, NHS County Durham and the county’s leisure centre operators Leisureworks.
