Murder inquiry launched into Ashington death

Police were called to the street at 12.23am. Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service attended and took the injured man to the nearby Wansbeck District Hospital.

Forensic officers spent much of yesterday examining an area outside two semi-detached homes in the street. Police have said they believe the attack was an isolated incident and people living in the area have described the neighbourhood as quiet.

Marie Briggs, 22, who lives nearby in College Place, said: “I didn’t hear a thing but I got a text from a neighbour at about 12.30am saying there had been a lad attacked outside.”

Anyone who was in the area of Bolam Drive, Ashington between midnight and 1am should call police on 0345 604-3043.
