Making a difference
THE new scholarships from Sunderland University aim to bring the most talented graduates to the North East to benefit our region’s businesses.
One computing student from the university has shown just how that can be done by helping a North East company save more than half a million pounds in six months. Student Anthony Ofoegbu, 31, who is studying science in information technology management, has been working with TWP Packaging in Gateshead.
He introduced a new Material Requirement Planning (MRP) system and within a few weeks it had saved the company more than £250,000 and helped them to secure a £450,000 order.
Anthony, originally from Nigeria, said: "When I started at TWP, the system they had in place needed a radical updating.
"I began working on the MRP system, a type of software that can be applied across a range of business processes.
"The system can lead to a decrease in wastage, improved stock management and cuts down on materials costs."
TWP general manager Kenny Stanness said: "Both the university and TWP are delighted with the huge benefits we have gained."
