Plans will be resisted
ANY moves to set up a new power station in Blyth are expected to face fierce local opposition.
At present RWE npower is planning a £2bn clean-coal power station at Cambois, on the site where the old Blyth Power Station used to stand.
The new development would bring 3,000 construction and 200 permanent jobs, bosses at RWE npower claim.
Villagers who lived with the dust and noise of the former power station for 50 years are opposed to the plan.
Malcolm Reid, co-ordinator for PANiC Stations (People Against New Coal-fired Power Stations), has previously warned that people in Blyth have strong memories of the "hideous" former power station.
Plans by a housing developer to build eco-homes and green energy power plants have also met with opposition from Northumberland councillors.
Energy is key part of the revolution
WORKING in new energy was among the areas identified as being key to the Great North Revolution, which will see the North East transform itself. The campaign aims to help the region to utilise its unique strengths to bring about another industrial revolution.
