THE Royal Opera House will be staging a much-praised production of Verdi’s La Traviata on June 30 – and you can be there without leaving the North East.

The opera, directed by Richard Eyre and starring American soprano Renée Fleming, is to be relayed live via satellite to digital cinemas including the Tyne Cinema in Newcastle.

Fleming plays the alluring courtesan who breaks society’s conventions for a life with Alfredo Germont (sung by Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja) in one of Verdi’s best-loved works.
