MP Dave Anderson praises revolution campaign

THE Journal’s campaign to spearhead a new industrial revolution in the North East has won backing from MPs calling on the Government to back the initiative.
Blaydon MP Dave Anderson has tabled a Parliamentary motion praising our Great North Revolution campaign to transform the economy for the future. Thousands of jobs could be created in new energy by building on a proud industrial heritage and skilled workforce – with the region aiming to become home to a wind turbine industry.
Healthcare, digital media and creative industries, along with local carbon transport, and the development of new materials and processes are other key areas.
And business leaders have already come together to map out the investment and direction needed to ensure the Great North Revolution campaign is a success. Labour MP Dave Anderson’s motion has already been signed by his colleagues David Clelland, MP for Tyne Bridge and Wansbeck’s Denis Murphy.
The motion “warmly endorses” The Journal’s launch of its great North Revolution campaign to stimulate the development of an economy truly fit for the 21st Century and beyond. “The North East is poised to spearhead a second industrial revolution that builds on its industrial heritage and skilled workforce and which will shape the region’s economic and social development for generations to come in fields such as energy, electric vehicles and life sciences,” it adds.
And it says trade unions and business groups in the region have major policy and other contributions to make – and urges Government support for this “important” initiative.
Speaking to The Journal, Mr Anderson said: “I am definitely on the same page as the Journal campaign and have been pushing many of the same issues in Parliament and in columns in this newspaper.
“I was very pleased to see the launch of the campaign and immediately thought it was right to table a Commons motion in order to build up awareness on all sides of the House and from all regions that the North East is very much in business and at the cutting edge of change.”
