Good samaritan Deka Kennedy died in bid to help woman

Mr Kennedy, from South Shields, had been playing darts in the Eureka pub, on Frederick Street, South Shields on January 18. After being called on to help in the incident between Morrison and his girlfriend, a brief struggle broke out between the two men before Mr Kennedy suffered the fatal blow and Morrison ran off.

Mr Graham said: “It is the prosecution case that the defendant committed the offence of murder.

“Armed with a knife he attacked Mr Kennedy and his actions were deliberate. In using such a weapon in the way he did, he must have intended, at the very least, to cause Mr Kennedy really serious harm.”

Morrison, of no fixed abode, has admitted the manslaughter of Mr Kennedy and common assault on Miss Eunson. He denies murder.

The trial continues.
