Young stars of Newcastle Musical Theatre shine

YOUNG performers will be showing their true colours on stage this week – some of them treading the boards for the first time.
Members of Newcastle Musical Theatre Company’s junior chorus will be appearing in True Colours – named after Cindy Lauper’s 80s hit – at the Royal Grammar School Theatre from Wednesday to Friday.
While the company, formerly called Newcastle Operatic Society, presents a show at the Theatre Royal each year, this is a chance for its younger members to show off their talents.
The RGS theatre in Eskdale Terrace, Jesmond, marks a change of venue for the Junior Showcase which, for the past two years, has taken place at People’s Theatre in Heaton to feature those who often miss out on the big stage event.
The cast for True Colours will feature both those new to the stage and others such as 16-year-old Eleanor Chaganis, who starred in Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Theatre Royal last November, and Ethan Tennant who shared the role of the Artful Dodger in its production there of Oliver! two years ago.
The show will include music from Queen plus show songs and a sprinkling of drama and comedy.
It will run from Wednesday to Friday at 7pm.
