No sun... but still lots of fun at North East events

A SHORTAGE of sun could not spoil the fun at a host of summer events over the weekend.
The recent heatwave may have been replaced by drizzle, but the weather did not dampen families’ enthusiasm.
From vintage rallies to surfing lessons in the North Sea, there were smiles all round.
Donkey rides and surfing were among the activities on offer at the Coast festival , on North Tyneside.
And pro surfers Candice O'Donnell and Holly Donnelly made the trip up to Tynemouth from Newquay to give youngsters some top tips.
The pair gave help and advice as part of a Roxy girls weekend.
Jessie Davies, from Rise surf school, said: “Everyone loved it. Having Candice and Holly here went down really well and the girls seemed to have a great time.”
Elsewhere, a host of vintage vehicles were on show at the 30th Steam and Vintage Rally held by the South Tyne Traction Engine Society at Tynedale Park, in Corbridge. Animal lovers got to watch the Hexham Horse Trials, with two days of dressage and cross-county racing.
And rowers took to the Tyne on Saturday for the Hexham Regatta. Hundreds of spectators turned out to watch one of the most popular rowing events and the largest one day regatta in the UK.
And there was plenty to entertain the family at the annual Ponteland Party in the Park.
Elsewhere there was an unusual sight in the border town of Hawick.
The Hawick Common Riding Cornet marched through the town on horse back before being carried through town in fancy dress.
