Qashqai cashes in as Nissan hits the top 10 best selling cars

The news was welcomed as a potential glimmer of hope that the recession could be easing.

Policy adviser at the North East Chamber of Commerce, Mark Stephenson said: “It’s fantastic news and comes as there is evidence across the region and beyond of a turnaround. Some people would say green shoots, but that might be a little premature. It’s more like the parachute might have opened on the free fall. It goes to show that there is good news out there. Conditions are tough, but with the right action and resilience, businesses can do well and thrive. They can get through the downturn and prepare for the upturn.”

Overall, new car sales fell sharply last month, with the motor industry saying that it would take time for the Government’s scrappage scheme to take effect.
