Celebrities turn out for Steve Cram's charity golf event

TOP celebrities teed off for a good cause at a Northumberland golf course.

Stars from the world of sport took part in the event at Slaley Hall, near Hexham, yesterday to raise money for children’s charity Coco, which was founded by former Olympic athlete Steve Cram.

He said: “This is the fourth time we have held the event at Slaley Hall, and it is our biggest yet.

“We are aiming to raise about £20,000.”

Those taking part in the 18-hole event, and dinner afterwards, included Sir Ian Botham, Niall Quinn, Kriss Akabusi and Denise Lewis.

Sir Ian said: “All charities are good charities. I have known Steve a long time and he helps me with my work so I am more than happy to help him out as much as I can.”

Enjoying his round, Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn added: “We have had a lot going on at the club in the past few days, so it is nice to get out and play a bit of golf. It has been a smashing day.”

Other stars taking part included ex-footballers Gary Pallister, Marco Gabbiadini and Craig Hignett, who lined up alongside Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton.
