Stadium of Light prepares for Take That and Oasis gigs

THE biggest concerts ever staged in the North East are set to bring a multi-million pound boost to the region.

When Take That and Oasis perform at the Stadium of Light in the next week they will bring with them fans likely to spend more than £3.5m.

Two Take That concerts and one from Oasis will provide Sunderland and the wider economy with a much-needed boost.

As well as helping kick-start summer spending, it is hoped the concerts will have a wider benefit by bringing the region to the attention of potential holidaymakers.

A more immediate impact will be seen in the shops and clubs around the city, which will get a boost in sales during a fortnight of events planned to coincide with the concerts.

The club’s marketing and commercial director, Lesley Callaghan, said: “We expect many people who come to the area for the concerts to go shopping or to a restaurant before the show and to sample the city’s nightlife afterwards.

“Many businesses are extending their opening hours on the days of the concerts to cope with the anticipated extra demand for their services.”

The club is working with the council on plans to ensure visitors have the chance to see what else is one offer.
