There will also be an exhibition of the work produced during the project on display at the Globe Gallery, on Howard Street, in North Shields.
The art gallery successfully won £5,000 of funding from Arts and Business at a recent Dragons’ Den-style event.
Stephen Pritchard, project manager, said the Globe Gallery were hoping to be able to put the scenes and scripts up in disused shops such as the former Zavvi store on Northumberland Street, Newcastle.
He said: “This project is so exciting because it really brings together such a broad range of people to engage with important public issues creatively.
“This is a unique approach to brightening the empty high street premises using art because it is produced by real people, making real statements about the real life affects of the recession.
“Empty shops in the high street are a horrible sight so hopefully this will brighten up the town centre.”
Workshops will begin at June 9 and will continue throughout the month. If you would like to get involved call Stephen on (0191) 222-1666.
