Belsay Hall hosts vintage bike display

THE smell of engine oil and the noisy throbbing of exhausts disturbed the normally tranquil setting of Belsay Hall and Gardens in Northumberland yesterday.

Belsay was the picturesque setting for a display of vintage bikes to inspire nostalgia for the open road and dreams on two wheels.

Harley, Norton, BSA, Enfield, all names to make biking aficionados dewy eyed with nostalgia, were represented. Bikers from all over the region and further afield turned up with their machines, chrome lovingly polished.

They included Karen Cram, pictured, from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. John Hogan, events manager at English Heritage, said: "This was a fantastic event to rouse memories and see some wonderful vintage machines."
