Meanwhile Lesley Calder, 48, is a familiar face at the Ladies’ Day races, and celebrated her hen party last night, ahead of her wedding in July.
Lesley, of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, who works for One North East, said: "I love the races, it’s a great day out. The hen party was organised by my friends, and when they suggested Ladies’ Night, I thought it would be perfect. I only had a £2 bet to win on the first race and it came in third, but it’s all just a good excuse to dress up!"
The event was sponsored by Newcastle’s Aesthetic Beauty Centre, which saw races given unusual names such as the Botox and Fillers Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
The top tickets have already been snapped up for the Ladies’ Day in July and Northumberland Plate in June, with 95% of ‘premier’ tickets now sold. Mark Spincer, executive director at Newcastle Racecourse, said: "All 5,000 Premier badges for each of these most popular days have nearly sold. It’s very much a case of book now or risk disappointment."
