First ever Ladies Night held at Newcastle Racecourse

HUNDREDS of women turned out in their glad rags last night for the first ever Ladies’ Night at Newcastle Racecourse.

The event was the newest addition to the racing calendar and included six races, a fashion show and a performance by singer Jason Isaacs.

Bosses at Newcastle Racecourse hoped to repeat the success of the popular Ladies’ Day which takes place in July.

And they breathed a sigh of relief as the threatening rain clouds were replaced by glorious early evening sunshine. Hats and fascinators were coupled with sunglasses, as the ladies made the most of the warm weather.

Among those enjoying a flutter at the event were first-timers at Newcastle Racecourse, as well as many who are regulars at Ladies’ Day.

Louise Clements, 35, an administrator, from Washington, was one of the visitors experiencing it for the first time. She said: "I’ve never been before and I think it’s lovely. It helps that it’s such nice weather."
