The wait went on for Newcastle fans yesterday, as Sunderland supporters ushered in a new dawn. Magpies fan Graeme Whitfield and Sunderland supporter James Marley report
IN the multimedia world we now live in, you can find out that nothing has happened in any number of ways.
Since getting home from work last night, I have surfed the net, looked on Ceefax and tuned in to Sky Sports News and found out that, just like the day before, pretty much nothing has happened.
Well, certain things have happened, I suppose. MPs have been behaving badly, swine flu has continued to spread and some other football clubs were involved in a game last night, or so I’m led to believe. But if you are a Newcastle United fan like me, nothing much has really happened since 6pm on Sunday.
I’d say we need a sign, something like the Vatican’s white smoke, but we’ve had too much of that Messiah nonsense previously. It’s time for us all to get serious.
The news we’re all waiting for – that Alan Shearer will take up the job of Newcastle United manager on a permanent basis – has been frustratingly slow in coming. It didn’t happen yesterday and it might not happen today. All we can hope is that it does happen, and sooner rather than later. Go to the horse’s mouth and click on Newcastle United’s website and the top of the latest news section is “Academy Kids Lift Bosnia Trophy”. That’s great, of course, but not exactly what we’re looking for.
