Unicorn offering free courses in horse care

THE Unicorn Centre at Stainton Way, Hemlington is offering free accredited places on its OCNNER Basic Skills in Horse and Pony Care training course from May 26-29 and continuing in June.

The course is open to anyone over 19 years not in employment. Learners need to live in Middlesbrough. The course will give learners an accredited qualification, enhance their CVs, help to build confidence and could be a progression towards volunteering or employment.

The Unicorn Centre is a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association and provides riding and therapy for disabled and able-bodied children and adults.

It is the only approved British Horse Society and RDA Centre in the North East to provide NVQ courses in Horse Care and Management and has been partnering with Middlesbrough College since it opened in 1998.

Centre manager Claire Pitt said: “The course is aimed at young disabled and able-bodied persons who are interested in horses and would like to learn more. There are a few places left, so anyone interested should get in touch as soon as possible.

“Students love the atmosphere here. They are always keen to learn more about our RDA work, and volunteer in many of the lessons.“

To apply for the course contact Claire Pitt on 01642 576222. Further information is available by visiting at www.communigate.co.uk/ne/unicorn.
