Tyre vandals damage over 50 vehicles in Lynemouth

Coun Milburn Douglas, who said his car was only protected because it was parked in the garage, feared that a vigilante group could form to hunt those responsible.

He said: "This is just sheer vandalism. They have gone on the rampage and it’s heartbreaking for people.

"We need the community to stand up to be accounted, I know it’s intimidating but we can do it."

Supt Allan Brown, of Northumberland Area Command, promised increased uniform and covert patrols.

He said: "Such acts of criminal damage not only affects the victims but everyone within the community, having a detrimental impact on people’s quality of life."

Only last month yobs rampaged during an early morning wrecking spree causing thousands of pounds of damage to cars and homes.

Car tyres were slashed, aerials and satellite dishes were ripped off houses and TV and phone wires cut.

Allotment sheds have also been damaged and cars torched in a campaign of hate causing chaos to families since the turn of the year.
