Car crashes into Ashington house after collision

“The driver was OK but the police took him away for questioning.

“The driver of the other car, a Citroen, was taken to hospital but I don’t think he was seriously hurt. It’s the third time we have had a car in our front garden. The lamppost gets hit nearly every month.’’

Residents in the area have complained that the one-way street in First Avenue at the junction with Alexandra Road is not clearly signposted. Neighbour Linda Bell said: “They come along First Avenue the wrong way and go straight across the road. My daughter had just parked in the one-way street when this car came past in the other direction and there was a crash.

“She had just pulled up and could have been involved in an accident herself.’’

Police are investigating the accident but said no action was being taken against the drivers.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Just before 5.15pm on Monday, April 20, police were called to a report of a two-vehicle collision on the junction between First Avenue and Alexandra Road in Ashington.

“The cars involved were a Vauxhall Astra and a Citroen Xsara. As a result of the collision one of the cars collided with the wall of a house in Alexandra Road.

“It caused damage to it and a structural engineer was called and the car was removed safely. No one suffered any serious injuries.”

A Northumberland County Council spokeswoman said: “We are waiting for information from the police and when we have the information it will be fully investigated.”
