Dean has fish of week at Derwent

GOOD hatches of Black Buzzer had the fish rising well again at Cow Green with many falling to Black Hoppers or small wets fished on floating line. Bait anglers have used small brandling worms under a stick float to good effect.

On his first visit to Derwent, Bear Park angler Dean Wylock landed the fish of the week – a 10lb 12oz rainbow – on float fished cocktail of worm and rainbow Powerbait at Powhill.

Fly anglers continue to enjoy excellent sport at the Bay of Plenty where the fish continue to chase lures with the Dawson’s Olive being the pick of the week.

Bait anglers are finding the area between the two fences the most productive, with float fished Powerbait becoming more productive with light winds and more adventurous fish.

It was a good week at Grassholme where D Carnall landed a 10lb 9oz rainbow near the Witch’s Hat and Billy Lockie had a well-conditioned rainbow of 9lb 11oz from the south shore. S Dawes set the standard for brown trout with a lovely grown on fish of 2lb 8oz.

The Easter holidays got off to a great start at Fontburn with many anglers taking their limit bags or coming close to eight fish in a session. S Jones had a great day, finishing with eight for 18lb while I Brace had eight for 18lb 8oz and Fontburn regular Sid Barnes had another great day’s fishing, bringing eight well-conditioned rainbows to the net.

The Kightly family all took eight-fish limit bags weighing in at 15lb 4oz, 14lb and 13lb 4oz while R Gibson took a mix of blues and rainbows for an eight-fish limit of 14lb 8oz.

Would anglers please remember to sign out on the catch return sheet.

The warmer weather has brought the Kielder fish higher in the water with fly anglers enjoying success with large nymph patterns and small lures on floating and intermediate lines.

Bait anglers using bubble floats and Powerbait have found fish about three feet below the surface. Fishing Powerbait from Tower Knowe, I R Parker had eight for 17lb, the largest at 5lb. For boat bookings and further information call (01434) 251000.

Anglers at Hury landed 33 eight-fish limit bags. J Drummond landed the largest rainbow of the season to date – a cracking fish of 7lb 4oz. Carlton Train had the week’s heaviest limit bag at 22lb 4oz while Gavin Burn took eight for 21lb 8oz.

During an action-packed week 39 Scaling Dam anglers went home with eight-fish limit bags with the week’s heaviest fish at 5lb 4oz caught on Powerbait by G Wetherell from Stockton.
