A ROCK band is preparing to play a special gig inside a large hangar on a North East RAF base to raise funds for a charity which supports military personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Alnwick-based indie-rockers The Tuckers are headlining free of charge at Thursday night’s event at RAF Boulmer in Northumberland, which is in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.
The five-piece band has also written and recorded a new CD single, Heroes, copies of which will be sold on the night to boost the fundraising effort.
About 170 RAF Boulmer personnel, their family members and guests are expected to attend Thursday’s Springtime Hangar Party, which will also feature a live performance by Scottish band The Imperials, and a disco.
The Tuckers – brothers James and Kevin Aitman, Matthew Howd, Tony Dunn and Glen Mattison – have forged a growing reputation on the local and national music scene since forming.
Yesterday guitar player James, 22, said: “RAF Boulmer contacted us a while ago now and we said we were happy to play for free.
“We also decided to record a special single to mark the occasion. I have got friends in the forces and the Help for Heroes charity is a worthy cause which we are happy to support.”
