MUSICAL talent from across the region battled it out for a place in the finals of a top competition on the hunt for the next best thing.
The Live and Unsigned 2009 tour reached the North East heats yesterday.
Hopefuls took to the stage in front of a panel of judges made up of industry experts.
If they land a place in the finals they could win a £20,000 record deal as well as vital promotion.
Those who performed yesterday at The Journal Tyne Theatre, Newcastle, had already beaten hundreds in a series of auditions to make the regional heats.
Over the course of the month more than 10,000 singers and bands auditioned to bag a place in the finals.
Each act had to perform a sample of their original material as well as a cover to illustrate their versatility.
Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren is set to judge Live and Unsigned for 2009 along with a host of other music industry buffs and specialists.
