Journal proves Sir Bobby is loved all over the world

Sir Bobby Robson

THAILAND'S very own Toon Army have paid tribute to Sir Bobby Robson after The Journal invited fans to send messages of support to the Newcastle great.

Srisak Rujikarnjana and his 12-month-old son New are members of the 7,500 strong Newcastle United fan club in Thailand.

Mr Rujikarnjana, 31, added his tribute to a special section of our website following the opening of The Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.

He said Newcastle and Sir Bobby have a huge following in Thailand and the United fans congregate to watch the matches.

“Lose or win, it doesn’t matter for us – except at the moment when we’re trying to survive,” he said. “We just want to see Newcastle, our team, playing football.

“Every day we wait for Saturday to see the match. When the team is beaten, we never feel we are wasting our time, it means we want to watch the next match even more. Other clubs’ fans may leave their team, but not us.

“We all really love Sir Bobby. Newcastle were flying high during his time at the club. Today’s new Toon Army have not had the chance to see Newcastle fighting in the Champion’s League – sad but true.

“His character is shrewd, sharp and still so warm.

“We want to let Sir Bobby and the people in England know that he has a lot of fans in a great Toon Army over here in Thailand.”
