Your chance to give teachers top marks

ONE of the region’s most inspirational teachers is hoping even more school communities will be rewarded at this year’s North East School Awards.
Delia Sykes, who works at King Edward VI School in Morpeth, Northumberland, was last year named the region’s most inspirational secondary school teacher at the awards run by The Journal in association with our sister paper the Evening Gazette and main sponsors Northumbrian Water.
Nominations are now being sought for the 2009 awards with prizes on offer to individuals who work in education as well as projects being run by schools.
Mrs Sykes said: “I very much enjoyed being involved with The Journal’s Schools Awards as it was a lovely celebration.
“I’m sure that there are many teachers out there who are worthy of entering and, for those who are lucky enough to be win, it’s a great accolade. I urge people to take part.
“The ceremony itself was fantastic and it was a pleasure to meet the other very deserving people involved.
“I would encourage anybody to enter. It is fantastic to be recognised in a job that does have its pros and cons and it’s a great experience to be a part of.”
Prizes are on offer for schools doing projects in five categories: the Sustainable School Award, the Healthy Living Award, the School Newspaper Award, the Environment Award and the Active Community Award.
