COMMUTERS in parts of the region could be faced with a snowy drive to work this morning.
Weather forecasters at the Met Office said higher parts of the North East could see snowfall as temperatures plunge yet again.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Temperatures will be below the long term average for the time of for the start of the week
“Overnight we were expecting to see some wintry showers and there could well be some snow as temperatures fall to around -1C.
“Lower ground, for example Newcastle, should escape much of the snow but higher parts of the region could have a layer of snow.
“We don’t envisage too many problems and any snow should melt quite quickly. Later in the week temperatures are likely to return to normal for the time of year.”
Higher parts of the region saw some snow yesterday.
