Competition focuses on a new generation

A PHOTOGRAPHER is hoping to inspire the next generation of snappers in a tribute to his grandfather who has spent his life capturing nature on film.
Adam Barr, of Morpeth, Northumberland, learned his trade on trips to locations such as South America and Africa with his grandfather, award-winning wildlife photographer Eric Bird.
The 84-year-old was given an MBE for his work, and his grandson hopes to encourage youngsters to get to grips with photography by inviting them to enter a competition that uses photographs as inspiration for creative writing. Mr Barr, 26, who runs Morpeth-based photography firm Adamskii, said: “I was inspired to become a photographer by my grandfather as he took me on nature trips all over the world.
“Even though he is in his eighties, he is showing no sign of slowing down and we are planning a visit to the Arctic Circle in August. I decided to organise the competition to carry on this tradition and make sure that photography is a part of children’s lives in the region.
“I am keen to hear from schools in more rural areas of Northumberland as I think it’s a great chance for pupils at smaller schools to get involved in photography.”
The winning pupil will receive a digital camera in the competition, which is open to nine-11-year-olds.
