Statistics represent harsh climate
ONE North East’s chief economist Paul Mooney said the unemploy- ment figures represented the tough climate for business.
He said: “Our focus is on making sure firms can get the support and finance they need.
“We’re working with businesses across the region to analyse any difficulties they may be experiencing and to explore what assistance may be available to help them access new markets, become more efficient and safeguard jobs. And even in these challenging conditions, firms are still investing for growth.
“Express Engineering at Team Valley is creating 40 new jobs as part of a £3.2m expansion plan, and in the last few weeks we’ve seen North Eastern Composites in Northumberland, Mike Fenwicks Catering Butchers in Newton Aycliffe and ADP Precision Engineering in Newcastle all announcing moves to larger premises to keep up with demand and create new jobs.”
