Mum-to-be loses baby in Howdon stabbing

A PREGNANT woman has lost her unborn child after she was stabbed in a fight.
An argument is said to have broken out between two young couples at Brinkburn Street, East Howdon, Wallsend, on Monday night.
The violence escalated and the woman was knifed in the stomach and the blade is believed to have penetrated her womb.
A second woman was stabbed in the fracas. Both were taken to Rake Lane Hospital in North Shields and are said to be in a serious condition.
It is understand the mum-to-be was eight weeks pregnant.
Neighbours heard shouting and police were called to the scene.
It is understood that during the incident, another child was injured when it was dropped on its head.
Police confirmed two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the double stabbing.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson of North Tyneside command area, said: “Two women are today in intensive care in Rake Lane Hospital, North Shields, after being stabbed.
“The disturbance broke out at around 11.30pm in two flats. We are trying to establish what happened and as a result, we have made arrests. I would ask for anyone who witnessed this incident to call officers at North Shields.”
Residents woke to find police officers guarding the house on Brinkburn Street.
One local resident, who did not want to be named, said: “At about 1am this morning, we heard a commotion.
“We thought there had been a fight. It’s quite frightening to know that a pregnant woman was stabbed. It’s very sad indeed and we hope her family find strength to get through this.”
Another said: “We heard there had been some sort of fight and someone got stabbed. We also heard a woman who was pregnant was injured.
“I have seen her out and about before and I don’t really know much about her. I hope she will be all right. No one should have to suffer in this way.”
A Northumbria Police spokesman said two men, aged 30 and 23, and a 17-year-old woman had been arrested and detained by police.
Superintendent Ralph Logan said: “These people are known to each other and while this is a violent regrettable incident, it is not a case of someone being attacked by a stranger.”
