Northumberland Lights at Seaton Delaval Hall

Seaton Delaval Hall

HISTORIC Seaton Delaval Hall lit up brightly in the night time sky last night as part of an annual winter festival spreading colour across the region.

The building was once again a high-profile part of Northumberland Lights’s “Guerrilla Lighting” programme, helping to highlight the National Trust’s campaign to save it from being sold to private owners.

Last night the 18th Century hall was lit up for all to see as a bonus to the month-long festival which begins on Sunday.

Families wrapped up to catch a glimpse of the historic landmark shining out in a bitterly cold night.

Next month Northumberland Lights is set to offer breathtaking scenes and stunning outdoor experiences across the rural county.

The team will also be lighting up some of the North East’s most popular landmarks and towns, including Kielder Water & Forest Park, Blyth and Berwick town centre.

The award-winning Northumberland Lights team is returning with its third instalment hoping to celebrate the county’s contrasting architectural and natural environments until November 30.

Sadie Parker, from the National Trust, said: “Seaton Delaval Hall is one of Northumberland’s greatest houses with a rich history, but unless the National Trust are able to step in and save it then it may be sold privately, with its future left unknown.

“It’s great that Northumberland Lights is showing us its support by illuminating this beautiful building.”

The National Trust needs to raise funds of £6.3m to buy the historic home.
